Innovation by evolution: bringing new chemistry to life

چکیده
Not satisfied with biology's vast catalyst repertoire, I want to create new enzyme catalysts and expand the chemistry of life. We use most powerful biological design process, evolution, optimize existing enzymes invent ones, thereby circumventing our profound ignorance how sequence encodes function. Chemistry encoded in DNA optimized by evolution enables efficient, sustainable routes important fuels chemicals. Evolution not only optimizes, it can also innovate entirely catalysts.

at the age of 88, was a pioneer in the depiction of the structures of biological macromolecules. He was caught up in the subject 36 years ago, when Scientific American asked him to illustrate John Kendrew's December 1961 article on the first protein structure, that of sperm whale myoglobin. This was followed by illustrations for David Phillips' November 1966 Scientific American article on the f...
متن کاملBringing new life to the dead zone.
The Gulf of Mexico “dead zone” reached a record 7,700 square miles in the summer of 1999. That year, heavier flow in the Mississippi River brought an abundance of nutrients to the Gulf, resulting in hypoxia, or inadequate dissolved oxygen in bottom waters that forces bottom-dwelling animals to either flee or die. With the year 2001 have come legislative efforts to reduce the dead zone—if not ki...

In this paper we present a project of creating a web based interactive encyclopedia of historical knowledge related to the history of the religions, the Bible and the history in general. The main source of information in the project is a film made by the Israel Museum that accompanies the exhibition of the Dead Sea Scrolls the oldest remaining copies of the Bible and extra Biblical documents. متن کاملDistributed Video Coding: Bringing New Applications to Life
Distributed source coding (DSC) is a new coding paradigm based on two Information Theory results: Slepian-Wolf and Wyner-Ziv theorems. DSC theory relies on the coding of two or more dependent random sequences in an independent way, i.e. associating an independent encoder to each sequence. A single decoder is used to perform joint decoding of all encoded sequences exploiting the statistical depe...
